The major categories of commercially viable gold recovery processes include the following:

Today, cyanide leaching is the method of choice for the recovery of most of the world gold's production. It is a technologically and cost efficient method.

The Lautan Luas mining division has had extensive experience with all of the principle commercially employed gold and silver recovery mining processes. In support of these processes, we supply:

  1. Sodium Metabisulfite from our own factory for cyanide detoxification
  2. Granular coconut based activated carbon (recovery series) used for recovery of gold from cyanide solutions
  3. Ion Exchange resins
  4. Viscosifier

  9. Commodity products such as HCL, Caustic soda Pearl/Flake, etc.

Sodium Metabisulfite

The almost universal adoption of gold processing standards require destruction of cyanide and metal cyanide complexes in tailings prior to discharge from the metallurgical site into the natural environment. Many plants destroy the cyanide in a contained area within the metallurgical site to minimize the exposure of wildlife, particularly birds, to these toxic solutions. Lautan Luas group manufactures Sodium Metabisulfite powder to address this critical environmental need, which it already supplies to most of the gold mining industry in Indonesia.

Activated Carbon for Gold Recovery

Activated carbon has traditionally been used to recover gold from cyanide leachates. It is essential that the activated carbon employed provide excellent process performance, minimal attrition loss and minimal maintenance problems. Significant improvements have been made in the still evolving carbon-related technologies for gold recovery, which Lautan Luas is following closely.

We provide a series of special activated carbon products for use in gold recovery. Our products provide:

  • Higher gold adsorption capacities for maximum gold loadings
  • Excellent gold adsorption rates for high throughput
  • Superior hardness to minimize gold losses and prevent plugging of screens
  • Ability to liberate gold more quickly and efficiently
  • High selectivity on gold adsorption in the presence of high amount of silver, copper, lead and zinc

Ion Exchange Resin Recovery

In recent years, resin has begun to replace carbon as the gold recovery substrate of choice, for both resin-in-leach and resin-in-Pulp. The process used in resin recovery is similar to that of carbon, but the gold is adsorbed onto solid spherical polystyrene resin beads rather than activated carbon grains.

Resin recovery offers all the advantages of carbon recovery, with some additional benefits:

  • Clear-cut mechanical and engineering advantages over carbon-in-column (CIC) recovery as a result of the flow characteristics of resin beads.
  • The size of the synthetic resin particles is more consistent than the natural activated carbon particles, allowing for easier control when adding adsorbent materials.
  • Better recovery rates are obtained from those containing high levels of clay or organic compounds.

Viscosifier

Mineral processing often requires solid materials to be combined with a carrier fluid such as water to create slurries. Although slurries have advantages, they also pose engineering challenges. They take significant amounts of energy to transport.

Viscosity modifiers are a family of low-molecular-weight polymers, oligomers and surfactants that alter the flow properties of fluids. They reduce the viscosity of process slurries to increase solids flows and or production volumes. They work by altering the surface charge to reduce the particle-particle interaction. This prevents particles from aggregating, which reduces the yield stress of the suspension.

Flocculants

Lautan Luas offers a variety of flocculant technologies to meet the industry needs.

  • Sedimentation aid in thickened tailings, floatation tailings and ore concentrates
  • Clarification of process water for recycling

Lautan Luas polymer products are constantly being improved to better meet the industry's requirements across a range of applications.

  • Our ultra high molecular weight polymers, ensure maximum performance and cost efficiency for sedimentation and centrifugation applications.
  • Our medium molecular weight polymers are effective on sedimentation applications where reasonably high settlement rates are required.
  • Our lower molecular weight polymers are used as filtration reagents on applications such as membrane filter, vacuum filter or belt press applications.

Scale Inhibitors

We offers scale inhibitors to minimize or eliminate scale formation encountered in the processing cycles of the mining industry. Scale control products are used to eliminate sodalite scale from heat exchangers throughout the Bayer Process in the alumina industry.

Dust Control Agent

Dust control agent binders function as a polymeric soil stabilizer and dust control agent. It reduces surface erosion caused by wind and rain, and serves as a suppressant of dust generated during the transport of materials during dry, windy conditions. It works as binding agent, which also forms a surface film coating when used in higher concentrations.
