Jakarta, 22 September 2021, PT Lautan Luas Tbk cooperates with Habitat for Humanity Indonesia and Happy Hearts Indonesia to work together for the construction of 70 houses, 7 water centres, and 7 schools will later become Kampung Lautan Luas. Kampung Lautan Luas was inspired by Lautan Luas new vision, mission, and tagline:” “A Better World Through What We Do” in that “We Are Inspired Toward Sustainability, Innovation, and People”.
Jimmy Masrin as Deputy President Director of PT Lautan Luas Tbk, said that “70 years is a new beginning in Lautan Luas’ journey. We are started from Indonesia and later on the company took part in #LautanLuasBuildIndonesia roles by adopting a village in Mauk, Tangerang by building 70 houses, 7 water centres, and 7 schools. The concept #LautanLuasBuildIndonesia was established to aim for life quality improvement through holistic activities and community-based approaches. Housing improvement and education are one of the most important sectors to improve quality of life. This will ensure the prosperity of community development and sustainability. “
According to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, there are currently more than 14 million uninhabitable houses in Indonesia, of which nearly 70% of low-income houses were built by their own families rather than by the government or private developers. This resulted in 25 million Indonesian families living in urban slums, settling along railroads, riverbanks, and on roads.
This project will be carried out in Margamulya Village, Mauk District, Tangerang Regency. The Mauk area is the target location for development in this program because it is an area not far from the capital city of Jakarta, but the need for livable housing and access to sanitation and clean water is very high. At least there is still a need for 3,550 livable houses and 2,320 individual toilets in each house. These two things are basic needs for the family, but the condition of the family in Mauk which is a low-income community (income 300,000-500,000 rupiah / month / family) does not allow them to be able to build a decent house.
Margamulya Village, which is the service area of Kampung Lautan Luas, is located close to the sea, so residents have difficulty getting clean water, not to mention the open area makes this location vulnerable to strong winds.
Since 2010, PT Lautan Luas Tbk has been committed to repairing, building and providing livable houses to the community which were built in Sentul, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Medan, Gresik and Karawang as many as 218 houses. In the education sector, PT Lautan Luas Tbk has also rebuilt more than 11 schools across Indonesia in the areas of Karawang, Jakarta, Tangerang, Cilegon, Gresik, Medan, Palembang and Eastern Indonesia in Lombok, Sumba and Malaka.
Susanto, National Director of Habitat for Humanity Indonesia said, “The house is the basis of every family’s life. So, a house is more than just a building, but a place where families start the day, knit their dreams, and make their hopes come true. Especially during this pandemic, the house is a fortress of protection for the family against disease. The efforts made by PT Lautan Luas Tbk are not only building decent housing but also building the lives of residents in Margamulya Village”.
In addition, PT Lautan Luas Tbk is also collaborating with the Happy Hearts Indonesia Foundation to rebuild 7 schools in the Mauk area with the aim that disadvantaged school children have access to more appropriate and safe educational facilities.
Sylvia Beiwinkler, Chief Executive Officer of Happy Hearts Indonesia also added, “We really appreciate the commitment and concern of PT Lautan Luas Tbk since 2013 with us in creating better access to education for Indonesian children, especially in underdeveloped areas. We hope that continuous donations in the field of education like this can be an investment to improve the quality of human resources and build a better future for Indonesian children.”
“Lautan Luas wants to provide benefits for people who do not have access to proper housing and education. Our PT Lautan Luas Tbk employees also participated by participating in a series of birthday activities of PT Lautan Luas Tbk including a virtual run and photo contest which later points from these activities will be converted to rupiah, which means that employees also help in the development of Kampung Lautan Luas” added Jimmy Masrin.
